Estimated reading time: 3 mins

You’ve been thinking about what you want to do after you officially graduate and you’ve started to realise that you want to quickly see success. You want to build a solid career that allows you to take your life in the direction that you are keen to see it move in. You’ve seen that there are lots of graduate schemes that you could apply for, but you just don’t feel like they are the right fit for you and your career goals.

Graduate schemes can be a great way to kickstart your career, however, it’s important to understand that this route isn’t right for everyone. If you have an idea of what you would like your career to be, then you might want to consider going down a different route, such as opting to start a business of your own.

Keen to learn more about how you could start your own business right out of university? Have a read of the tips and advice below!

You need a concept

First and foremost, if you are going to launch a business of your own, it’s essential that you have the right concept in place. You cannot just come up with any old idea and decide to turn it into a business, you actually need to think things through properly, to make sure that it’s a viable business concept. A great way to come up with a concept is to think about where your skills and interests sit. A business doesn’t have to revolve around a product, it could be a service-based business that you opt to launch. Take the time to think your business concept through and go from there.

A business plan is a must

If you are going to launch a business, it’s vital that you have a business plan in place. Think of your business plan as your road map to success. When it comes to launching a business, you need an action plan to follow, which is where your business plan will come into it. For instance, say your business idea is to offer a delivery service with a number of unique and innovative features, your business plan should focus on key aspects such as how much used vans might cost or how you will market your business. If you are going to give your venture a solid chance of success, you need to have an actionable plan in place to follow.

Take advantage of graduate support

When it comes to launching a business as a new graduate, it’s important that you look into what support is available to you from your university. You might be surprised by the amount of support that’s available to you; from grants and loans to business planning help and assistance, graduates tend to get a lot of support when it comes to launching a business.
If you want to launch your own venture straight out of university, it’s important that you take the time to think things through carefully. There’s a lot that you need to consider and take into account, but if you take the right approach to starting your business, you can give yourself a good chance of setting yourself up for success.
