Post-Coronavirus Careers – Are You Ready For A Switch?

Estimated reading time: 5 mins

The coronavirus pandemic has had a lot of people thinking about their careers and what they want to do next. For some, it has meant the end of their jobs, and for others, it’s brought home the fact that their careers aren’t living up to the hype. It’s a good time for reflection, and could help you make some important decisions about your future.

Are you ready for a career switch? Here are some post-coronavirus careers to consider.

Inspired by health heroes? Join them!

This pandemic has been a shock to the world, putting a strain on health resources unlike anything else in recent memory. The healthcare workers on the front line are risking their own lives day after day for others, something that is inspiring many people to step up. Has it inspired you to take up a career in the health industry?

You don’t have to become a nurse or doctor to work in healthcare, there are many other avenues you can explore, including some that are related to your existing skills and experience. You could become a healthcare actuary studying a degree with Regis College, helping to make a big difference. Working in the health industry is very rewarding, and can really make you feel as though you’re making a difference to others.

Loved working at home? Go freelance!

For some people, working at home has lost its novelty quickly. Many people need an office environment to survive. But if you’ve thrived working at home and got yourself into a routine quickly, then you might want to consider making it a permanent arrangement. There are several ways you can do this, including making an application for flexible working with your company, or you can choose to go it alone.

Going freelance is an excellent way to build a career for yourself. Not only does it mean that you get to take charge, but you’ll get to pick your hours, while also choosing the work that you’re passionate about. You could freelance part-time to begin with, helping you test the water before diving right in.

Working at home does have its challenges though. You need to make sure you stay healthy when working from home, as well as learn how to find the right work/life balance. It can be an exciting time for your career, but also a challenge. But if you’re up for it, it could be the best move you’ll ever make.

Aced homeschooling? Move into teaching!

If you’ve had to homeschool your children during this time, you might have accidentally discovered a passion for teaching. Becoming a teacher can be a wonderful change in career, especially if you’ve got a highly developed interest in a certain subject.

To become a teacher, you’ll need to think about retraining and studying for a new degree. If this isn’t possible, you could always consider becoming a tutor instead, helping students with one-on-one learning. You could make a big difference to a student’s life.

Developed a great new hobby? Blog about it!

People are taking up all kinds of interesting hobbies during this isolation period. From experimenting with different recipes and baking to become an expert at DIY and interiors, this has been a great time for people to realize their calling and develop some new hobbies. But how can you turn this into a career? Through blogging about it, of course!

Starting a blog is something you can start today if you wanted to. By investing time into developing a following and promoting your blog, you’ll be able to enjoy crafting something great based around your interests. Over time you’ll be able to monetize your blog and work with brands and sponsors – who knows, you could become the next internet sensation!

Want to see more of the world? Work abroad!

Not being able to vacation or travel at this time can make you realize how much of the world you really want to see. But once you’re back at work, your other responsibilities will soon get in the way, making it more difficult to jet set around the world. So why not combine work and travel together?

Becoming a digital nomad is something many people are pursuing to be able to enjoy traveling without having to save a small fortune first. Being able to work while you hop from country to country will mean you won’t have gaps in your career, but get to enjoy the thrill of being in new and exciting locations. If you’ve got the type of job you can do anywhere, then you’re already part of the way to becoming a digital jet setter. It will take a lot of planning and discipline, but you can be sure that it’s an experience you won’t forget.

Ready to make a difference? Do something good!

The importance of helping others has really come to light in recent weeks. There are a lot of vulnerable people out there needing help, and you could embark on a career that will make a big difference to others. From working for a charity to volunteering, there are multiple avenues you can explore to switch to a career that does good

Even if you’re not in a position to give up your current career, you could still volunteer in your free time. There is always help needed and you’ll also find that it reflects well on your resume when applying for future jobs. Volunteering is also a great way to meet some new people, even if you just volunteer online.

With everything that’s been going on, you’ve probably had a lot of time to reflect on your life and any changes you’d like to make. Your career is something you should look to change if you’re unhappy, helping you to do something more worthwhile or something that you enjoy more. Life is short, so make sure you make the most of it.
