When you’re just so desperate to get out of the job you’re in right now, and find something that’s more suitable for you, it can be so frustrating when nobody seems to hire you. Or what’s worse, if you’re jobless at the minute and trying to find your forever career, the stress can be far higher. You’ll often sit puzzled as to why you’re not even making it to the interview process, let alone through that. But there’s so many different factors that could be contributing to this. But as long as you’re applying for roles that you’re qualified for, you should be at least getting a couple of interviews along the way. We would understand if you were not getting chosen simply because you were going for roles out of your reach, but if even the roles you can get to aren’t choosing you, then something needs to be done about it. So, we’re going to give you three of the main reasons why nobody is hiring you, and what you can do about it!
Your CV might be something that you haven’t looked at for years. It might be something that’s collecting dust over the years, and then all of the sudden you’re pulling it out and expecting it to work for you. But let us tell you, it most definitely won’t work if it’s a few years old. The way in which CV’s should be presented have changed, and it’s most likely outdated, and you can probably put a few more interesting things in there. There are some roles that will look at your CV more closely, such as with marketing. If you don’t know how to create a marketing CV, the link will help you to do so. Because certain careers require certain types of CV’s. Not with how they’re presented, but with the information that can be found on them. You also have to think about your target audience. Many companies at the minute are millenial based, meaning they’re looking for a more modern sounding young minded person!
The application that goes alongside the CV is just as important. In fact, some companies are not bothered by the education and experience that you have, that they go off the application process alone. It’s common for companies to set out a question styled application process, asking you what you would do in certain situations, serious or not. So again, it’s all about knowing your audience. A serious top marketing company is not going to want as much humour as a young interesting marketing company is, so you have to try and gauge the boundaries of professionalism, before even going to the interview!
If you do make it to the interview stage, the last thing you should be doing is overselling yourself. Making it seem as though you’ve got all the experience and qualifications that you need, and that you will be the best thing that’s ever happened to their company. They don’t want to know about that, they want and need to know about the real you!
