It’s Not Just About Recycling! Ensuring Your Business Is Truly Environmentally Friendly

Estimated reading time: 2 mins

While you might think you’re doing above and beyond for the business in terms of the marketing, the product, and the employees, the modern company that’s truly successful focuses on the additional parameters and goes the extra step. Ethics and morals are such vital components for companies to embrace for the very simple reason that customers want to know who they are buying from. It is one thing to market your company as environmentally friendly, but you’ve got to make sure that you’re not just recycling paper and turning the lights out when you leave the building! What can you do to ensure that your business is truly environmentally friendly?

Complying With The Regulations

There is a lot more red tape out there, and this can prove to be troublesome for any burgeoning business, but if you aren’t knowledgeable in your REACH compliance or don’t know the background of the suppliers you’re working with. All it takes is someone consumer to see that you’re making dodgy dealings with the wrong people, and this could bring your business down. Environmentally friendly businesses aren’t just compliant though, because this is almost too easy. It’s about truly engaging with the changes in rules and regulations, and perhaps, even anticipating them. Yes, this is a lot of work, but you have to watch your back just in case somebody is out there waiting for you to trip up and expose you as being non-compliant with the laws.

Altering The Internal Processes

It could just be you that wants to adopt a green frame of mind, but if you are to make a difference within a business, you’ve got to start acquiring disciples. This means you’ve got to look at how the culture of the business operates. Once you undertaking adequate assessment of how your business compliant and environmentally friendly, you’ve got to add extra enforcement so people are not just doing their bit, but it becomes a learnt habit. It’s all about getting your workers to be wholly committed to the idea of going green, and by getting the office to employ green practices is just the start. You’ve got to turn people onto your way of thinking, but it’s never that easy. You can alter the internal processes, and make certain procedures compulsory, but if your employees don’t align with your way of thinking, you have an uphill battle on your hands.

Fund The Right Projects

If you work with other green organisations, this provides excellent publicity, but you’re actually doing something for the sake of the planet. Planting trees for a garden is an expense you may not want to fork out for, but if there are those companies willing to do the work if you fund the project so you don’t need to exert your business efforts.

While being environmentally friendly is essential these days, we can merely pay lip service to the idea. But being environmentally conscious is one thing, having it to be a fundamental part of your business ethics is another. Ensuring that you are actually environmentally friendly is a lot more work than you realise.
