4 Tips for Keeping Your Office Clean

Estimated reading time: 3 mins

A clean and organized office is a successful office. It’s hard to get anything done if your mind is cluttered due to the actual clutter at your desk.

One of the most important aspects of your office environment is to make sure that your space is clean, orderly, and well-kept. With the day to day wear of office work, your office can be left looking like a teenager’s bedroom if you are not careful.

Whether you work from your home or in a big corporate building, tidying your space is always necessary. From everyday upkeep you can do yourself to jobs that require professional cleaners like Halo Restoration Services, here are four tips that you can apply to your life to keep your office clean.

  1. Out with the Old

The worst thing you can do for your office is clutter it up with things that are either not used or not working anymore. There is no space in most average offices to keep things that are no longer necessary, so it is important to know when to let go.

If the leaky water cooler in the corner of the office hasn’t been filled with water in years, it is probably a good time to either get a new model that will have workers flocking to have “water-cooler chats”, or to just get rid of it all together.

By clearing out what is no longer needed, your office can become a lot more spacious, organized, and can even be more productive than a cluttered office.

  1. Set Office Rules

We have all seen the dreaded breakroom microwave. Whether on TV or in our very own jobs, many offices’ breakrooms have a serious lack of cleanliness.

By setting clear rules and conduct expectations for the breakroom, you may never have to witness the horror that is the inside of the breakroom microwave.

A good idea to get started with this is to have a “make a mess, pick it up” mentality in the office; it also could be beneficial to put someone in charge of making sure that the office and the breakroom are clean.

  1. Hire the Professionals

While you can declutter and assign rules as much as you please, some offices will still need the attention of a professional. With hired cleaners, you will not have to worry about a mess in the office, and you can instead focus on the job that you have to do.

Many of these cleaners come into the office after work hours, as to not interrupt any work being done during the day, and they clean the office so that you do not have to.

Depending on the size of your office and how many workers you have, hiring a cleaning crew to work a night shift does not break the bank for your company and can have many advantages.

  1. Cleaning Your Home Office

If you work from home, you are not excused from keeping a clean workspace. It is probably even easier to keep your space clean when you are the only one using it, but that does not mean that these tips will not work for you.

Declutter your workspace of any unnecessary objects. Your daughter’s favorite toy is probably really great, but you do not need it in your workspace – if you can, keep family spaces separate from your personal work area.

Set rules for yourself, such as no eating at your desk, clearing out your trashcan once a week, and dusting the hard to reach places on your desk. These are all great ways to keep yourself in check.

The Bottom Line

One way or another, a workspace has to get cleaned. Besides obvious health aspects, a neat office is the best way to ensure that your company will succeed. It can be difficult to get a group of people focused on their job at hand to clean up their areas, so a cleaning crew can be a good investment for your business.
