Is a Happier Workforce a More Productive Workforce?

Estimated reading time: 2 mins

When you’re running a business, it is easy to get caught up in the small things that a running a business entails. Are invoices being paid on time? Are client meetings arranged? Is the budget being met? But there are some other considerations to have in the workplace that can often get overlooked. You want to make sure that your employee’s health and well-being is taken care of when at work.

There are some basic health and safety things that you will be doing so far in your workplace. Like providing a clean and safe environment for your team, as well as performing things like risk assessments. But there are more things that you can be doing to make sure that you have a more effective workforce. When employees enjoy their job and enjoy coming to work, they are much more likely to be productive when they are at work. So having plans in place to make your workplace a happy place to be, can really pay off. When a team is more productive, it means more business success. It also means attracting better team members as you will earn a reputation for being a great place to work. So it really is a no-brainer to implement this kind of thing in your workplace.

But how can a happy workplace be achieved? Here are a few suggestions for you.

Consider Employee Mental Well-Being

As well as their physical health, your employees will be their healthiest and happiest when their mental health is considered too. Take, for instance, a team member that has gone through something traumatic at home or even at work. Is counseling something that you offer? Your business might not be big enough for your own occupational health team, but you could employ company like Health Assured, to deal with this kind of thing. You could also offer physical and stress-relieving activities like yoga over the lunch break, for instance.

Be Friendly

In an office where people feel that there is a real community feel, then it has often started with the management. When your employees feel like they can approach you, then it means a less ‘scary’ environment for them to work in. Say to others, engage, and get to know your team.

Get Out of Office Occasionally

There are important things that do need to get done in the office each day. However, there are also plenty of different things that can allow you all to have an out of office day or an away day. Treating your team to a team lunch, a day at a theme park, or other fun activity, gives your time to relax and get to know one another. When your team are friends, then they are going to enjoy coming to work much more.

Focus on the Positive

At work, we can understandably come up with many negative things. But when it is our focus, it really can be detrimental to all around us. Focus on things that our team does well rather than just negative. You can still have areas to improve upon, without having to be too negative about it.
