Shelter Your Office From Bad Weather

Estimated reading time: 2 mins

You might think that bad weather only poses a big risk to your home property. After all, office blocks rarely suffer from any particular damage from bad weather right? In actual fact, that isn’t always the case. Not only that, though, but there could be times when your employees are unable to get to the office because of the weather. Are you prepared for that kind of situation? If not, then you need to read on about sheltering your office from bad weather!

Invest In A Generator

During bad storms and blizzards, there’s a good chance that there could be some damage to the city’s electricity grid and cables, which could result in your office losing power. This could be terrible news for your company as you will have to halt all your work. To get around this, though, it’s a good idea to look into generator hire or buying one to keep onsite at all times. That way, the next time you lose power, you just fire up the generator and can get back to work as usual.

Create A Bad Weather Policy

So, the weather outside is so bad that some of your employees are unable to make it into work. Now what do you do? It’s important that you create a bad weather policy so that there is no confusion between you and your employees as to whether or not they should make the effort to get to the office. If their journey is dangerous because of the weather, they should work from home.

Consider Out Of Office Communication

Do you need to let all of your employees know that they shouldn’t come into the office because of the weather? You need to figure out the best way to let them all know. You could send out a mass email but not everyone might check their work emails at home. So, it’s a good idea to put some telephone trees in place. You just need to call one of your employees and then they will be responsible for calling a couple of others, who in turn will also need to call the next employees in the tree. Eventually, everyone will have been called.

Get Some Insurance

There is a slight chance that your office building could be damaged during periods of bad weather. For instance, strong winds could blow tree branches through your windows and snow and heavy rain could cause flooding and structural damage. As you can probably tell, this kind of damage will be very expensive to repair. So, it’s a good idea to take out plenty of building insurance so that you are covered financially. If anything does happen to your office building during inclement weather, your insurance provider should pay up to cover the costs without too many issues.

As you can see, there are actually quite a few ways that bad weather could throw a spanner into the works of your office life. The best thing you can do is be prepared!
