Building A Successful Business After Lockdown

Estimated reading time: 3 mins

In a Post-Pandemic world, the landscape of business will look entirely different to what it did a year ago. 2020 has made a huge impact on the business world, and many smaller businesses have fallen by the wayside after lack of funds and ability to create their products.

Today we are taking a look at how we can build a successful business after the pandemic. This year has weeded out many businesses from the landscape and although this has been bad news for many, it also brings with it an opportunity to grow anew and fill a gap.

We want to share some helpful tips to get you started on your business journey after lockdown and how you can make a name for yourself in this new world.

Know where to scrimp

The most important part of starting a business is managing your money. As a startup every penny counts, and the last thing you want to do is spend in places where it is not necessary. 2020 has shown us that many people are able to work remotely, and as you begin your business journey it may be helpful to choose this method of work and save the cost of renting an office and utilities. Use less paper whenever possible and utilise free tools and apps for your marketing and sales efforts. There are lots of ways to save money with a fledgling business so make sure to try it yourself.

Create a brand

As a business, your brand is your identity. If you don’t create a recognisable brand at the start of your business you will soon fall at the first hurdle and other companies will overtake you. Use an agency like to help you create a brand that stands out and fits your target audience. Understanding colour and shapes, as well as fonts can make a massive difference to the vibe you put out to the world and the people who are attracted to your business. Make calculated decisions and ensure that your brand speaks for you.

Build an online presence

In this day and age it is more important than ever to have an online presence. If you are looking to build a successful business this year, the first thing you need is a website, as well as social media accounts. When people are looking for a product or service, the first thing they will do is Google it. If you don’t have a website you could be missing out on lots of potential customers. A simple website is all that’s needed to start with; a minimum viable product. Once you are up and running you can add pages to your website as needed and create your own virtual space on the web. Having an online presence brings reputability to your company and you’ll be trusted.

Share your story

Every business has to start somewhere, and your story will be unique. To really make an impression with your audience and create that all important relationship with them, sharing your story can be a great thing to do. Show your audience how you came to be the business that you are today and where you came up with your ideas. Share a personal side to your business and allow your audience to relate to you. This kind of human interaction can make a massive impact on your success as people will relate to you over other brands and they in turn will want to support you over them.

Target your audience

The most important part of any business is the audience. When you start a business you need to lay out a target audience and plan how to reach them. For example, if you are a fashion brand you might want to target women between the ages of 16-30. To do this, targeting instagram and Twitter will likely be a good idea. If you are a homeware brand who wants to target people between ages of 25-40, you may want to focus on Facebook as well as Pinterest. Think about your target audience and tailor your efforts to them. This will allow you to succeed in those difficult first months.

Understand analytics

You cannot create a successful marketing campaign without being able to analyse it. When you set up an advertisement or a piece of content, you need to be able to track the views you get, click throughs, and sales. Studying with Google Analytics Academy can be a useful thing to do, allowing you to gain an understanding of what to look for and what all of that data means. By doing this you can tailor your efforts and make better decisions.
