Being your own boss can be amazing at times. It can also be stressful and require a ton of self-discipline.

You have no one telling you what to do when you wake up every day. You’re on your own to make your own choices and make your own money.

This article will teach you 7 amazing tips on how to be the best self-employed boss you can be.

1. Get Organized

One of the toughest parts of working for yourself is that you are in charge of your own success.

The most successful people are the most organized. It’s important you keep your workspace in order. Just because you don’t have a boss monitoring your work station doesn’t mean you should live like a slob.

Keep your important documents in separate files. Keep a calendar so you don’t forget any important dates. Keeping your calendar on your phone or tablet is a good idea because it will send you reminders when events are coming up.

Use websites like Trello that help you keep track of what tasks you’re working on. Trello allows you to sort tasks into “to do”, “doing”, and “done” categories.

2. Try Coworking

If you don’t have an office of your own it’s easy to get lonely working from home.

Try a coworking office in order to meet more people. This will also help you with networking and spreading the word about your business. It’s a great way to meet other members of the community who also have non-traditional jobs. Remember to bring business cards with you so you can introduce yourself and build business contacts.

You can usually rent a coworking space for a nominal fee, much lower than you would pay renting an office.

Getting out of the house to work for several hours a day will keep you motivated. You won’t be tempted to crawl back into bed in the middle of your day. Plus the fee you’re paying to use the space will make sure you make good use of it.

3. Get Social

Social media is one of the best way to quickly share the latest news about your business. it’s a great way to tell the world you exist.

Your business should have handles on all social media sites from Facebook to Twitter to Instagram. You should utilize these sites to grow a following and show people what your business is all about.

Interact with other local businesses on social media to boost relationships.

People are more likely to trust a company that has an online presence. This trust will ultimately earn you more customers and more money.

4. Ask for Help

Don’t feel like just because you’re self-employed that you have to do it all on your own.

Once your business grows, don’t hesitate to hire some help. You will be surprised by the weight taken off your shoulders once you hire an employee or two.

Post the opening on job sites like Indeed or Glassdoor to find recruits. Be sure to vet them carefully, however. Your first employee should be someone you trust so take your time with the hiring process.

Don’t be afraid to ask for references and hold multiple interviews until you’re sure you’ve found the right fit. Once you do find the right hire, take time to train them well. Remember that you may know your business inside and out, but that it’s totally new to them.

5. Go Paperless

This means treat yourself with courtesy and respect. Running your own business or working for yourself can be hard. It’s easy to let it consume your entire life and forget to give yourself breaks. After all, no one is mandating that you take vacation days or sick days since you have no boss.

Don’t work during all hours of the day. Instead, set aside a certain working time so that it doesn’t blend into your recreational life. This is especially important since you’re not clocking in and out of an office every day.

Be sure to give yourself vacations as you need them. You will come back more refreshed and ready to take on new challenges. Don’t become so overworked that you burn out and can’t continue.

And don’t forget to keep your energy levels up with healthy snacks throughout the day. For example, Ember Snacks offer great biltong and beef jerky, which are both high protein healthy snack.

No one is there to tell you you can’t have a cardboard cut out of your favorite rockstar. You’re allowed to personalize your office as much as you want.

Keep your home office out of your bedroom if possible. You don’t want it to become too comfortable.
