3 Tips to using social media to drive traffic to your website

Estimated reading time: 3 mins

Social media is a powerful tool that has become a major part of our day to day lives. People use it for different reasons, some for fun, some to interact with other people, while others, to offer services to a target market, such as health care. For people in business, using social media to drive web performance is the main thing as it actually helps to get results. Below are a few tips on how you can do the same.

1. Use your social media bios

Nearly all social media platforms have a section where you can include your profile information in order for followers to identify exactly who they are following and what your interests and aspirations are, for instance. These profiles often contain information such as a profile picture, your handle or username, a brief description of who you are or what you like, and, often, links to other social media accounts. Your bio is frequently visited, and it is thus the best tool that you can use to drive people to your website. For instance, you may include a link to your website on your profile such that every time a person checks out your bio, if they are intrigued, they may click on the link in order to find out more about your website. This will thus help drive a lot of traffic to your website. For bloggers who have new pieces up every time, you may always add the new link to your most recent post so that all your followers may keep up with your posts without any hassle.

2. Post about your site content

This is a pretty effective way to get conversations started about your website and the content that you have. If you have a new recipe up, for instance, use visual aids and post pictures of your dishes on your social media. This will spark curiosity from interested parties and they will flock to your website to get the information that they require. Interact with your audience about your content, get their opinions on various issues and use various tools on different social media platforms to promote your content. For instance, actively engage with your with Twitter users by using hashtags which are quite effective on that platform, or use pins on Pinterest. Remember to maintain a balance though during your posting. You do not want to bombard your audience with posts about your site every time, as some may actually take this as spam. Post your regular selfies and every once in a while include something about your website. This will ensure that you do not overdo it.

3. Be consistent

To get the best out of social media you have to be active and consistent in all platforms.  Do not just post information about your site, but remember to participate in conversations as well. Follow people as much as they follow you and like, share and comment on their posts. Interact actively with various people on all platforms and take part in conversations, be it conversations spanning in serious topics such as global warming or national epidemics to fun and light-hearted things such as memes. Be consistent in posting too, so as to assure your audience that you are still present and you actively want to engage with them. This, in the long run, will help you to retain and gain more followers who will eventually increase traffic to your website.
