Being The Best Boss You Can Be

Estimated reading time: 2 mins

When you’re running a business, you’re the boss. No one can tell you what to do, no one can tell you where to invest your money, and no one can tell you who to hire and who to fire. Except any shareholders, any investors, the HR department if you have one, and your business model itself! So when it comes to taking matters into your own hands, you have to be a responsible and reliable leader. Anything outside of this model isn’t going to make you many friends…

When you have the confidence to take your business to the next level, and your daily operations speak volumes about that for you, people are going to let you do what you want with the money you make. To be a good boss is to be an intelligent business person, so take a look at a few of these tips below for advice on how to achieve this.

Most of All, Inspire and Enable Others

When all people have to say about you are glowing reviews, you’re well on the way to success. Of course, an ounce of criticism here and there isn’t going to tip the scales against you, and is actually quite a good thing for your reputation: when there’s visible room to improve, people are going to find you a lot more approachable and legitimate.

Look to your taskforce to make sure you’re being the best boss. They’re the people working around you on the regular, and the 9 to 5 working environment is where your true character shines. Be honest with your employees, and talk to them regularly; this can immediately set up a good bond between all of you, and makes the office a lot more comfortable to stick around in.

Let people flex their creative wings when they want to, and take in idea from all sides. You’re all collaborating on the same projects after all, and thus your employees should have every right to make their thoughts known on what it is you’re up to behind the scenes.

Chase Up Money Matters

Business relies on cashflow. Cashflow is king. If the money dries up, then there is a strong chance that your workers’ salary payments will dry up too. So all leaders must make sure that the important bases are covered.

And by that mean make sure you’re always chasing up deals that haven’t been completed and you’re willing to put in the extra time to make sure the books balance at the end of the week. Pick up a free blank invoice if your previous efforts aren’t working, and be sure to send through reminders for payment with the invoice everytime you need to chase an unruly customer up.

Being the best boss of them all can take time, and changing any errant behaviors you may have had takes serious thinking!
