  1. This is a great list Simon – gave it a Stumble. I’m a huge fan of mindmapping and think Freemind is a fabulous program. It’s as powerful as programs that cost $50-$100 and it works on any platform.

I have 2 additions to your list. I really love Sandy a free, computerized virtual assistant. “She” has a great memory and fantastic organization abilities. I do not.

However, my FAVORITE, free program has to be Evernote. I have yet to find anything this personal information organizer can’t do. I’m a researcher by trade and Evernote helps me keep my life, and my brain, in working order.

  2. @Maria – that Evernote tool looks really cool. I see it having some serious productivity benefits and the fact it can be used to index and search all kinds of documents and images with real ease makes it quite unique. I have downloaded it and I am going to give it a try. The movie clip on the homepage is a great demo of Evernote’s capabilities! Thanks for the tip Maria.

Guys – try this out! EVERNOTE

  3. Good list. Let me give a big thumbs up to NotePad +. I’ve been using it for over a decade – the same version. Amazingly useful, simple tool that has a lot of power if you take the time to learn everything about it.

  4. @Jill – thanks for the compliment. Maybe you could write back on how you got on with the list? Getting through all 35 might take you into 2010!

  5. @polyGeek – most developers I know use or have used Notepad+. They say the same thing – it’s very simple but very powerful. Learning all the features, I hear, takes a little time but well worth it

  6. @Jason – thanks for feedify – looks like quite a nifty tool. It does look like it could be a ‘neat’ tool for feed-scraping… consolidating a lot of stolen content from blogs and presenting is as ones own though! Could be a splogger’s dream! What do you think?
