		<description>@Mark - I think your golden rule still stands. I take sensible risks, but looking like a scarecrow in front of clients isn't one of them. I always dress 'up' when meeting new clients and dress 'down' if it is appropriate to meet the attire of the client. Drew's article yesterday correctly states that first impressions count, so it's not wise to gamble with it</description>

		<description>Simon, "go with the flow" is probably a good rule of thumb even though I've seen some mavericks in IT - one fellow used to look (and walk) like Clint Eastwood in "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly". Minus the cigar, of course.

The golden rule I adopted was: if in front of clients then wear smart attire.

One dress code "rule" I did like about being an IT engineer was dropping the necktie on health and safety grounds because I was sometimes leaning over high speed whirly fans in computer and network kit!</description>
